Emergency Medicine

James Comes, MD is board certified in emergency medicine.

Dr. Comes earned his medical degree at University of Pennsylvania before completing residency at UCSF Fresno.

Dr. Comes’ major clinical activity is the supervision of medical students and residents in the emergency department at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, as part of the UCSF Fresno Emergency Medicine Residency Program. His clinical time consists of the evaluation and treatment of emergency patients in conjunction with UCSF Fresno residents, and the main teaching activity is one-on-one bedside teaching.

Dr. Comes has held numerous leadership roles in the department. He served as the program director of the transitional year program from 1995 to 2001, residency program assistant program director  from 1996 to 1999, associate program director from 1999 to 2007, and program director from 2007 to 2017. He also served as interim chief from from 2016 to 2017 and chief from 2017 to 2022.
