The Department of Infectious Disease strives to provide excellent clinical care to its patients while educating the next generation of Infectious Disease specialists. Its focus on research allows for seminal research discoveries in this broad and dynamic field.
In 2008 the program recieved full accreditation by the ACMGE for a two-year clinical Infectious Disease Fellowship and in 2011, after our first site visit, the ACGME subsequently granted the program a 5-year accreditation with no citations. The program is driven by a panel of faculty experts with a distinctive combination of experience and eduation. The unrivaled dedication that our faculty providers display draws the best and brightest from all over the country to work alongside our faculty.
Our program includes clinical rotations, protected time in research and continuity care experience at the Special Services HIV Clinic. Our fellows are provided with a rich clinical experience in general Infectious diseases and care of patients with HIV and other immunologic disorders. Our fellows are also trained in hospital epidemiology, clinical microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship program.
The Department of Infectious Diseases’ basic and clinical research endeavors promote the acquisition of knowledge concerning infectious diseases that leads to innovative strategies to combat pathogens. Our providers utilize research achievements to improve both patient care and medical education. The department is dedicated to being the premier medical care team in the Central Valley for infectious diseases as evidenced by medical innovation, dedicated personnel, high quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
The UCSF Fresno Infectious Diseases fellowship program admits two highly qualified physicians each year. Our program places equal emphasis on both clinical and research training. Our goal is to produce skilled clinicians, educators and investigators.

The Department of Infectious Disease provides a broad range of services for the identification, prevention, management and treatment of communicable diseases (contagious diseases). Our providers are experts in infections of the brain, bones, bowels, heart, lungs, pelvic organs, urinary tract and sinuses caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses.
